Prerequisites for being a mobile event and special events disc jockey: - A genuine and unbiased love of music - Audio visual equipment management background - Ability to use today's current software and hardware tools in creating seamless mixes and transitions - A strong knowledge of musical styles, genres and hits and dance floor favorites spanning 6.7 decades - Ability to work long days that include travel, system set-up/tear-down, while attending the main event (up to 16 hours with ceremony services followed by a full reception) - An easy going and customer service focused attitude while maintaining a calm demeanor during stressful moments that may arise - Ability to program music selections for various musical interests - Ability and comfortable in speaking to large groups - A firm commitment to practice and be prepared with pre event preparations - An on going commit to improving ones knowledge of music past and present Two Types of Mobile Disc Jockeys Full-time operators and part-time casual Full-time dj/operators are established legal business entities, like any other, with a commit to meeting industry standards as set out by such organizations as the CDJA (Canadain Disc Jockeys Association) while providing clients with a reliable and professional service. A part-time casual dj would be an individual with a day job who enjoys djing on the weekends, they may or may not be a legal business entity. They may or may not hold themselves to the same standards as a full-time operator. With that said there are no doubt some very good part-time casual djs who work for a multi-op company or on their own. There may also be some full-time operators who do not prescribe to certain industry standards and thus may fall short on certain fronts in the services they provide. Special Event DJ verses a Club DJ A Special Events DJ caters mostly to private events as well as public special events where being able to provide music for a wide demographic range is required (hits past to present over six decades). As well they (if professional) have additional skills and abilities to meet the needs of their clients, such as mic usage, MCing, additional audio visual equipment, unbiased approach to music selection etc... A Club DJ generally caters to night clubs or big dance party venues catering to a specific demographic. They're focused primarily in developing a mixing/remixing style and playlists that will separate them from other like minded club dj's. They don't generally accept song requests as they will have sets or playlists that they have in mind for the evening. The music they play at such venues will be EDM and Top 40 mainstream dance tracks. Ultimately it is up to you the consumer to determine what your criteria is in finding the right mobile disc jockey for your event. Cost of Running a Business: Rates provide for travel, set-up and tear-down, equipment , pre event communications and preparations, ability, professional development, cost of running a business, new music purchases, vehicle and equipment maintenance and upgrading, advertising, insurances etc...
