What is Your Style as a DJ?
My aim is to blend in with the event and not overtly stand out, to inspire the moment prior to the dance and set the evening up for the dance to follow. During the dance portion of an event I'm watching and working the dance floor. I like to mix it up and keep the music fresh while moving through various styles and genres. I provide clients with a combination of requests and choices that best suit the occasion and the flow of the moment. I like to be interactive and encourage folks to get up and enjoy a dance. Will You Be The DJ at Our Event? Yes. Livin’ & Dancin’ is DJ Ben Miles. What Styles of Music Do You Play? Livin’ & Dancin’ DJ Services is able to provide for a wide range of genres and styles of music. Available are popular music styles from pop to rock, past and present for both dancing and listening, as well as contemporary dance and club styles and genres. I have classical, ambient lounge, jazz and folk recordings which all lend themselves well to receptions and dining. As a musician, DJ and music enthusiast, I have an affinity for anything with great dance rhythms: urban grooves, funky dance, horns, big beat, disco, house and club pop, classic rock, funky rock and pop past and present, along with songs that inspires and project great vibes…to mention a few! Do You Take Requests? Yes. Prior to your event we will discuss what styles you are most interested in having presented. Two tools are available for you to use in requesting song titles and music genres : the Music Search Database and Music Programming Form. During your event I have Music Request Forms which guests can fill out. Requests are played in a timely fashion and in line with the moment. Can We Have a “Do Not Play" Song List? Yes. Both the Music Search Database or Music Programming Form provide for listing “Do Not Play” requests. Do You Manage Volume Levels Over the Course of the Evening? Yes. Volume needs to be balanced with each song and through the course of the evening. I continually evaluate volume levels and watch for indications the music may be getting too loud. Should We Have Lighting for the Dance Floor? Lighting adds atmosphere and draws attention to the fact that dance and celebration are a part of your evening’s events. Lights are placed so as not to be pointed directly at others who may be seated close to the dance floor. Do you provide MC services? Although a friend or relative who is comfortable and willing to prepare beforehand would be the ideal choice I am available to emcee if required. We would discuss itinerary and presentation in detail if you require this service. Are You Available to Meet with Us Prior to Our Event? Yes. I welcome the opportunity to meet in person, learn more about your event and what I can do to ensure everything goes as you are envisioning it. This is included in the event fee. Meeting clients in person is confined to Banff and Canmore. Do You Have a Contract, Do You Require A Retainer? Yes. My contract covers event details, contact information, DJ requirements, terms and conditions as well as the agreed upon price for my services. A retainer of $200 is required to secure a booking date. All charges are discussed and fully disclosed prior to signing a contract. Are You Insured? Livin’ & Dancin’ (Ben Miles) carries property and personal injury protection up to a total of $2,000,000. A copy of insurance coverage is available upon request. I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment for my clients and their guests. When Is Final Payment Due? Final payment is due the same day or prior to your event. Payment can be made via bank e-transfer, 3rd party e-transfer, money order, personal cheque, or cash. GST of 5% is collected with all charges. Do You Travel and If So How Far? Yes I travel and service Southern Alberta and parts of B.C. Travel and accommodation charges may apply and are negotiable. In such instances available options are considered and discussed to mutual agreement. Do You Have a Back-up System in event of Equipment Failure? Yes. All equipment is professional grade audio equipment. I have provided for a variety of potential scenarios although very unlikely. In most instances any interruption would be brief and your event would continue as scheduled. Why Hire a DJ for the Cocktail and Dinner Portion of Our Evening? Having music during cocktails and dinner is a personal choice and may involve either a live act or recorded music or none at all. Items to consider with music during the reception and dinner: ► Need for a mic and announcements: with Dj Ben on hand, mic levels and trouble shooting can be handled in a manner not disruptive to the moment. A house P.A. & mic may be lacking in fidelity, not have an operator readily available and not be complementary to the occasion. ► Music selection can be more intuitive to the moment with DJ Ben monitoring volume levels to ensure proper balance, along with the presence of the music presenter to help suggest the special nature of the occasion. ► Livin’ & Dancin’ chooses music with the idea of creating musical sound tracks to inspire and accompany each portion of the evening. i.e. swing, uptempo pop, light grooves for cocktails (energizing the moment), classical, light swing, singer/songwriter or other for dinner (fine dinning with elegant and relaxed music).
